When to visit Hellbrunn's trick fountains
Season, time of day and weather — how to catch the water games at their best.
Hellbrunn only comes alive for part of the year, and the trick fountains are an outdoor, warm-weather pleasure. Timing your visit well means sunshine on the water jets and a slot that isn't sold out.
The season
The trick fountains run daily from late March to 1 November, then close for winter. If you're in Salzburg outside that window, the gardens may be open but the water games won't be flowing.
Best months
May, June and September pair warm days with lighter crowds. July and August are hottest — ideal for getting playfully soaked — but also the busiest, when timed slots matter most.
Time of day
Late morning and early afternoon give the fullest experience with the sun high over the water. High-summer sites keep admitting into the early evening, which is a quieter, golden-light option.
Frequently asked
Is Hellbrunn worth it in the rain?
The fountains still run, and you'll get wet anyway — but the gardens are less pleasant. A bright day is far better.
